Hyperledger FireFly 1.1 Is Now Available on Kaleido
Update
Since this post was written, Hyperledger FireFly has reached 1.0. Learn more here!

Earlier this year, the Hyperledger FireFly community released version 1.0, introducing the first open source Supernode. The community has followed that up with version 1.1, another major release that makes it possible for FireFly users to deploy multiple blockchain applications connecting to multiple chains, including leading public blockchains like Ethereum, Polygon, Avalanche, Optimism, BNB Chain, Arbitrum, Moonbeam, Fantom and more.

Today we are excited to let you know that Hyperledger FireFly version 1.1 is now available on Kaleido.

Hyperledger FireFly 1.1 Overview

Hyperledger FireFly version 1.1 is built for a world where the enterprise needs to manage multiple use cases across both public and private chains and wants to operate those applications from a single console. Highlights of this new release include:

  • Consortium Mode: Use Consortium Mode to build multi-party business networks where data needs to be agreed to and shared among the group
  • Web3 Gateway Mode: Use Web3 Gateway Mode to connect to public blockchains including Ethereum, Polygon, Avalanche, Optimism, BNB Chain, Arbitrum, Moonbeam, and Fantom.
  • Public Blockchain Support: New features combine together to enable public blockchain support, including:
    • FireFly Transaction Manager: An all new EVM Connector for handling the complex concerns of public chains, including gas estimation, resubmission policies, and more.
    • FireFly Signer: Sign transactions in networks where it is necessary to separate private keys from the blockchain node.
    • Enhanced Gateway Support: Keep private data private while interacting with public chains.
  • Multi-tenant Support: Namespace isolation is available when multiple parties need to share on- and off-chain data and agree upon the ordering and authenticity of that data.
  • Run Multiple Instances of Plug-ins: A single FireFly node can now use several instances of each plugin that’s available, allowing developers to coordinate flows per chain or consortium.
  • Pluggable API Security: Enable API Security at several levels, including on any service or on a specific namespace.

You can learn more about the Hyperledger FireFly project, including a full breakdown of each new feature, on the Hyperledger Foundation blog.

Hyperledger FireFly 1.1 on Kaleido

Hyperledger FireFly 1.0 introduced a complete stack to build and scale secure web3 applications. With this new release, Hyperledger FireFly is going a step further to meet the developer at the convergence of the public and private blockchain ecosystems.

In the coming weeks, we’ll be working to bring the click button simplicity of Kaleido to the entirety of Hyperledger FireFly's sophisticated new functionality. In the meantime, you can try out all the features in this new release by downloading the CLI from the FireFly Github.

If you have any questions, FireFly maintainers and contributors are standing by in the FireFly channel on the Hyperledger Discord to help.
